Urgent (Same Day) & Emergency Appointments

These are for those acute problems that can't wait for a routine advance appointment. Urgent (same day) appointments will be allocated to the soonest available doctor in every instance due to their urgency.

Please see our Urgent Problems and Out of Hours page for information.

Weekend & Evening GP Service

Patients can see a GP, nurse or healthcare assistant for routine appointments in the evenings and over the weekends.

Find out more about this service here.

General Information

The appointment system operates both for your convenience and to aid the Doctors. The usual appointment length is 10 minutes long and so an appointment is for one person only and if there is more than one problem that you need to discuss, then please be advised that you may need to book a further appointment.

You may consult any of the Doctors in the practice, not just the one with whom you are registered.

Telephone Consultations

We offer telephone consultations with a GP, for follow-up discussions, advice relating to previously seen or existing conditions, medication reviews, discussion of test results, fit notes, possible reactions to medication, certain child ailments, i.e. D&V, eye problems etc. If you feel your problem could be dealt with over the telephone by a GP please request a telephone consultation. You may also be automatically offered one by the Receptionist.

Advice is also available from the NHS 111 service by calling 111 from your landline or mobile phone.

Why does the receptionist need to ask what's wrong with me?

It is not a case of the receptionist being nosey!

The reception staff are members of the practice team and it has been agreed they should ask patients “why they need to be seen”. Reception staff are trained to ask certain questions in order to ensure that you receive:

  • The most appropriate medical care
  • From the most appropriate health professional
  • At the most appropriate time

Receptionists are asked to collect brief information from patients:

  • To help doctors prioritise house visits and phone calls
  • To ensure that all patients receive the appropriate level of care
  • To direct patients to see the nurse or other health professional rather than a doctor, where appropriate

Reception staff, like all members of the team are bound by confidentiality rules

  • Any information given by you is treated strictly confidentially
  • The Practice would take any breach of confidentiality very seriously and deal with accordingly
  • You can ask to speak to a receptionist in private away from the reception desk
  • However if you feel an issue is very private and do not wish to say what this is, then this will be respected.

Thank you for your support.

Chaperones

If you anticipate that you may require an examination by the Doctor and feel that you would like a chaperone to be present, please make reception aware at the time of booking your appointment so that this can be arranged. Alternatively bring along a member of your family or friend to your appointment.
